Shelf Envy: The Hillcrest Estate

I wanted to start a series of book shelves I have either come across in person or seen online.

To start the series off, I had to go with the master of decor herself, Joanna Gaines. The girls in my family took a fun Fixer Upper themed vacation (before COVID) where we stayed in The Hillcrest Estate. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was THE GIANT BOOK CASE in the parlor(?). I can go on about all of the nooks and crannies and well thought out details throughout the house, but I will stick with the bookish aspects. Please see Exhibit A below:

Speechless. Truly. I think I stood there for a few minutes trying to glimpse the titles and that archway! I love that there’s shelves lining the door frame. GOALS. Let’s also talk about the lighting this little room is getting…how perfect would it be to live here and read books all day.

If I were to add something, I’d add a sliding ladder like Belle from Beauty and the Beast because how fun would it be to slide over and reach the top shelves?! After careful perusing I noticed most of the books were probably found in antiques stores (as seen on Fixer Upper) and were most likely just for the aesthetic.

Lastly, I want to talk about how the bookcase is matte black. If you know me, you’d know I have a thing for matte black I’m not sure what draws me to it, but I love it. So the fact that she made this matte black to contrast the overall neutral tones in this room made me appreciate Joanna more. She is truly a master of her craft.

Next there is a bedroom to the right when you walk in, that had a GORGEOUS display of books which I took note for future reference. See Exhibit B below:

I am not sure if you can tell from my phone quality photo, but the room is navy blue. It gave me scholarly, let’s smoke a cigar and play golf kind of vibe. I feel like the books on the shelf would be some Shakespeare or an old edition of something. Right? My nana stayed in this room since the other rooms were upstairs. Such a beautiful room.

After we unloaded our bags we went to explore their Magnolia Market which had this incredible display on their entry wall. I just had to highlight it! See Exhibit C:

If this isn’t me, I don’t know what is! Books? Fall? Vintage books? So perfect!

It was overall one of my favorite trips ever and we all had so much fun! I bought so many magnolia items and I have continued to be such a big fan Magnolia and The Gaines in general. I can’t wait to explore more!
